Thanks to a grant to Performing Arts Readiness from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, seven cites/festivals will be selected to host a fully funded The Art of Mass Gatherings for Performing Arts Symposium through the end of 2022. These symposiums have been optimized to support community resilience led by performing arts professionals and organizations. People have often sought out the arts as a method of recovery, form of therapy, and brick-and-mortar places of refuge during and after emergencies. By building upon the skills and connections necessary to locate, communicate with, and host people, these symposiums will enhance advanced preparation. When implemented well, emergency planning can profoundly enhance a community’s ability to bounce back from adversity.
Special thanks to Tom Clareson of Performing Arts Readiness and Lisa Gedgaudas of Denver Arts & Venues who have partnered to help guide and support this program.
